Terms of use
1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of cvestia, a service that turns a CV in PDF form into a portfolio site published under cvestia.com. They form a contract between you and the publisher of the service.
2. Acceptance
You accept these terms, the acceptable use rules and the privacy policy by ticking the box when you deposit your CV, before any file is sent. The date and the version you accepted are kept with your deposit, then with your account.
If these terms change, the box is put to you again the next time you come to your space, and nothing else is possible there until it is ticked, except viewing your site, taking it offline, taking your content with you and deleting your account. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
3. Who may use the service
You must be 18 or over and legally able to enter into a contract. The service is not meant for minors and nothing in it is designed for them.
An account is an email address you control. One address entitles you to one site. You answer for what is done from your mailbox, except where your mailbox has been compromised and you report it to us without delay: receiving a code is enough to sign in, and there is no password to lose.
Your account is personal. It cannot be lent, shared, assigned or resold.
Your site’s address is derived from the name carried by the CV you deposit. You may not take an address that uses another person’s name, a trade mark, a company name or the name of a public figure, nor one meant to suggest an identity or an affiliation that is not yours.
4. What the service does, and what it does not promise
The service reads your CV using an artificial intelligence model, draws a site’s data from it, lets you correct and complete that data, then publishes the site when you ask.
cvestia is a personal project, free and non-commercial, built by its author in their spare time.
The service is provided as is, with no warranty of availability, continuity, retention or accuracy. The publisher uses reasonable means to keep the service running, without committing to a result. It may be changed or interrupted at any time, without notice in the event of maintenance, an incident or a security risk. If it is shut down for good, you are told by email at least thirty days in advance so you can take your content with you.
During the beta, any feature may be changed or withdrawn, including the cockpit, the themes and the PDF CV.
The PDF CV is generated automatically from your site. Check its layout and content before you send it.
The service is designed for recent browsers. Correct display is not guaranteed on every device.
The templates aim for good accessibility, with no guarantee of conformance to a standard (RGAA, WCAG). The content you add can lower it.
Always keep the original of your CV. cvestia is not a backup service.
5. No warranty that your data will be kept
cvestia is not a backup service. We take reasonable measures to protect and keep your data, but keeping it is not an outcome we guarantee.
It may be lost, erased, corrupted or made unreachable. That goes for all of it: your site’s content, published or draft, the files that go with it, the CV you deposited, your account and your site’s visit measurements. A technical failure, an outage at the host, a migration, an operating mistake or the shutdown of the service are each enough to make it disappear.
A nightly backup exists and makes it possible to restore data after an incident, but no restoration is owed to you and no backup is guaranteed. To the extent the law allows, the publisher’s liability for loss of data is limited to direct and foreseeable harm.
Your space lets you take all your content away in a file at any time, and your site produces a PDF CV of that content. That is the real remedy, and it depends on nobody: take a copy.
6. What the model does, and what you must do
The site’s content is produced automatically from your CV by an artificial intelligence model. A model can get things wrong, leave things out, attach a date or an employer to the wrong entry.
That content is a draft. You alone are responsible for rereading it before publishing, and you alone are responsible for what your site shows once published. The service gives you an editing space for exactly that, and publishing is always an explicit click of yours.
cvestia is designed and instructed to add nothing about you: the model is told not to fill the gaps in your CV and to add no judgement of its own. It can nonetheless get things wrong or misread, which is why nothing is published before you have reread it. What the site says comes from what you deposited, then from what you wrote. The Artificial intelligence page sets this out in detail.
The service does not score, rank, filter or select people. It takes no decision producing legal effects or significantly affecting you.
7. No promise of results, no verification
The service promises no professional outcome. Having a cvestia portfolio guarantees no interview, no job, no assignment, no contract, no reply from a recruiter, and no passage through an automated applicant filter.
cvestia verifies nothing you declare: not your jobs, not their dates, not your degrees, not your certifications, not your skills, not the recommendations you publish. No check is made, no document is asked for, and the presence of a statement on a cvestia site is neither an attestation, nor a validation, nor an endorsement by us.
What you publish binds you, and you alone. A reader who wants to verify something should ask you or its source.
cvestia is not a recruitment agency, not a placement service and not an intermediary between candidates and employers. We pass no profile on to anyone.
Nothing on cvestia is legal, professional or career advice. The suggestions shown in your space are for guidance only.
Visit measurements are approximate: they may include robots or miss visits, and they cannot tell you who looked at your site.
8. What you warrant about what you deposit
By depositing a CV and publishing a site, you warrant that:
- the CV is yours, or you have the written permission of the person it describes;
- you hold the rights to everything you publish, text, images, logos and screenshots included, or the permission of their owners;
- you may publish the third-party data your site names, in particular the authors of recommendations, employers and clients, and you have informed them where the law requires it;
- you are meeting the confidentiality obligations that bind you, in particular towards past and present employers;
- you may display the company names, trade marks and logos your site mentions.
On that last point, which is the most common case: the names, trade marks and logos of your employers, clients and schools remain the property of their owners. Naming an employer in a career history is normal and lawful; reproducing their logo requires their permission, and that permission is yours to obtain, not ours. cvestia is affiliated with none of the companies your site names, and nothing on your site may suggest otherwise.
Publishing someone else’s CV without their agreement is forbidden, and it is the prohibition that matters most here.
You indemnify the publisher against any third-party claim arising from a breach on your part of the warranties above.
9. Forbidden content and uses
Forbidden content and uses are set out on the Acceptable use page, reachable from the footer. It forms an integral part of these terms, and it is what any removal decision points to.
10. Usage limits
The service applies quotas per email address and platform-wide ceilings: number of codes sent, number of generations per day, size of the deposited file, number of saves and publications per day. They protect the service against abuse, and they may change at any time without notice. Reaching one is neither a fault nor a sanction.
11. Publishing, and what it means
Publishing makes your site reachable by anyone who knows its address, with no account and no authentication.
A published site may be indexed by search engines, and it exposes a sitemap, a file readable by automated systems, and a PDF CV of its content. It is cached so that it can be served quickly.
A public page can be read by anyone and by anything: a person, a search engine, a crawler, an artificial intelligence system that analyses or copies it. cvestia can neither prevent that nor know who did it. That is the price of a public address, and it is why publishing is an explicit click and never a default.
Taking your site offline or deleting it removes it from cvestia. It does not remove what third parties have already copied, indexed or archived, and cvestia has no way of acting on them.
You can take your site offline or delete it from your space at any time.
12. The rights you grant us
You keep your rights in your content. You grant cvestia, for the lifetime of your site only and for the sole purpose of running the service, a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to:
- reproduce, store and back up your content;
- cache it and distribute it on the hosting provider’s servers;
- display it on your site, lay it out in the template, and render it as a PDF, a sitemap and a machine-readable file;
- pass your CV’s text to the model provider named on the Artificial intelligence page, once per CV you submit.
This licence ends when your site is deleted, subject to the time caches and backups take to expire. It carries no right to use your content to train a model, nor for any other service.
Published sites carry a footer signature naming cvestia. It is part of the service.
If you send us a suggestion, a remark or a bug report, we may use it freely to improve the service, with no consideration and no obligation to tell you. You remain free to use the same idea elsewhere.
13. What belongs to cvestia
A published site is two things brought together that do not belong to the same person: your content, which stays yours, and the site itself, which stays cvestia’s.
The following remain cvestia’s exclusive property: the code, the templates, the layout, the design, the stylesheets, the components, the PDF CV generator, the interface wording, the example sets, the name and the distinctive signs. What publishing gives you is the right to use them on cvestia.com, not the site.
That right of use lasts as long as your account, and it cannot be assigned or sub-licensed. It does not allow you to extract, copy, reproduce or host the layout or the code elsewhere, nor to resell or assign your site, nor to decompile it, nor to build a competing service from it.
The address cvestia.com/your-name is a cvestia address. You have the use of it for as long as your site exists. It is not assigned to you, and it becomes available again when your account is deleted.
Taking your content away is always possible from your space. It is your content that travels, not the site.
14. Moderation, suspension, removal
The publisher may remove content, take a site offline or suspend an account when content breaches these terms, the acceptable use rules or the law, when a use threatens the running or the cost of the service, or when an authority orders it.
Any such decision is notified to the person concerned, with its reasons, the facts it rests on, and how to contest it. It is contested by writing to the contact address, and a contest is examined by a person. You may also contest the decision before the competent courts.
No removal decision is taken by automated means.
15. Term and ending
The contract lasts as long as your account exists.
You can delete your account at any time from your space. Deletion is final: it erases your site, your email address and the deposited CV if one is left, and it immediately frees your site’s address, which becomes available again, including to a person with the same name. Only the publication log described on the Privacy page survives it: the IP address, the date and the time of each gesture are erased one year after that gesture, which is the term the law sets, and the email address with the site address five years after the account is deleted.
Once an account is deleted, its address may be given to someone else, including a person with the same name. Remove that link from your CVs and profiles: cvestia is not responsible for links to the old address that are still going around.
Inactivity: an account left six months with no sign-in to your space and no visitor on your site is treated as abandoned. We then warn you by email at the account address, and with no response from you within thirty days, the account and the site are deleted and the address becomes available again. Both conditions are required together: a site people visit is alive even if its owner never opens their space, which is a portfolio’s normal case.
The publisher may end the service, in whole or for one account, in particular where these terms have been breached. The service being free, that ending gives rise to no compensation.
16. Liability
To the extent the law allows, the publisher is not liable for:
- errors, omissions or approximations in the content produced by the model, which you are required to reread;
- the content you publish, or its professional consequences;
- unavailability, interruption or loss of data, within the limits of article 5;
- the consequences of publishing your site, in particular its being read by a current employer;
- indirect damage, in particular a lost opportunity, contract or professional prospect.
The publisher remains liable for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, for personal injury, and for anything the law forbids excluding. Nothing here deprives a consumer of their statutory rights.
17. Personal data
The processing of your data is described on the Privacy page, which forms an integral part of these terms.
18. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. Each version carries its effective date under its title and keeps an address of its own, where it stays readable after being replaced.
A substantial change is announced on the site and, if you have an account, by email, at least fifteen days before it takes effect. The new version applies to how the service operates from its effective date. It is put to you the next time you come to your space, as article 2 provides; if you do not accept it, you can delete your account, and nothing else is possible there in the meantime.

19. General provisions
Transfer of the service: the publisher may transfer these terms, the service and the data that goes with it to another person or company, in particular where the service is taken over. You are told by email at least thirty days before any transfer of your data, the successor undertakes to keep the same purposes and the same refusal to train a model on your content, and you remain free to delete your account before the transfer. You may not, for your part, transfer these terms to anybody else.
Severability: if a clause of these terms is held invalid, only that clause is set aside and the rest continues to apply.
Forbearance: not enforcing a clause at a given moment is not a waiver of the right to rely on it later.
Force majeure: the publisher is not liable for a failure caused by an event beyond their reasonable control, in particular an outage at the host, a wide network failure, a decision by an authority or a cyber-attack.
How we reach you: notices about the service are sent to your account’s email address, and sending them counts as informing you. Keep that address current: an address that no longer receives cuts you off from the service and from your site.
Language: these terms exist in French and in English. Where the two versions diverge, the French version prevails.
20. Visitors to published sites
A published site may be viewed freely by anyone, and it may be indexed and quoted by search engines and by the AI assistants that look there for an answer for their users.
Beyond that use, reproducing it, extracting it by automated means or reusing it commercially, including to train an artificial intelligence model, is prohibited without the consent of its author. By publishing, the author opts out of text and data mining within the meaning of Article L122-5-3 of the French Intellectual Property Code, and cvestia expresses that opt-out on their behalf by machine-readable means: the domain’s robots.txt file, a header and a tag on every page, and the site’s machine-readable file. The footer of every published site reminds its visitors of it.
The layout, code and design of a published site remain cvestia’s, on the terms of article 13. cvestia cannot guarantee that a robot honours these signals, and has no way of acting on what a third party collects in spite of them.
21. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law.
The service is designed for the European Union. If you use it from another country, you are responsible for complying with local law.
In the event of a disagreement, write to the contact address first: most are settled there. Failing agreement, the French courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the protective rules applying to consumers.
The service being free and published on a non-professional basis, it does not fall within the scope of French consumer mediation. That would change on the day a paid offer exists.
